When you just don’t have enough energy to focus

What do you tell yourself when you’re having one of those days that you just can’t focus?

In this case, it’s not about distractions, your brain just isn’t up to the task of thinking through the problems you’re trying to solve.

I’m actively working on this because doing a lot of intense work, some call it Deep Work, really wears out the mind. It’s not something we can maintain for long periods of time and eventually, our brains say “Enough!” We need to balance things out and do work that doesn’t meet our definition of “productive” without beating ourselves up about it.

I was recently on a podcast called Beyond the To-Do List. In preparation for the call, I wanted to listen to some of the recent interviews and I’m so glad I did!

The episode was Brittany Berger on Discovering The Productivity System That’s Right For You. In it she talks about having an illness that prevented her from doing intense problem-solving type of work. She had to work around this and discovered some really beautiful things about herself and came out of it with a whole new outlook on productivity.

Instead of regurgitating her thoughts and story, I’d love for you to give yourself the gift of listening to this episode. By doing so, I hope you find your way to a more compassionate conversation with yourself when you experience days when your brain just doesn’t seem to be up for the challenge.

Success Story:

I thought it might be nice for you to be able to read some success stories of clients we’ve worked with recently so you can get a little encouragement about what’s possible. I made a video for you here walking you through the solution.

Bethany is a grant writer for non-profit organizations. She worked with us in the past when she rebranded and needed help getting Google Workspace set up properly with the new domain.

This time around, she needed help optimizing her email and project management workflow. She was pretty on top of things, but she was having to do a lot of back and forth between Spark (the email app she likes to use) and Asana.

The problem was that she had the tasks she needed to do listed out in Asana. But when she had to do the work, it took a lot to track down the email conversation for that request, and then more research to find the other resources that were needed for the project. Sometimes those were websites, sometimes email newsletters, etc.

Again, here’s the link to that video. I hope you find it helpful!

If you’re a non-profit organization and want to get in touch with Bethany about getting help with grants, you can find her at https://bmpconsulting.org/
