Fastmail to Google Workspace Migration

đ Fastmail â Google Workspace Migration
â
TL;DR
- Use a Fastmail appâspecific password in your migration CSV.
- Use the New Google Workspace Data Migration tool.
- For personal FastmailâGmail.com migrations, CloudHQ offers a free tierâsee pricing below.
â
I don't know why this is so hard to find a decent article on Google for this so here's the easy way to do it.
These instructions are for migrating to the Google Workspace platform.
If you need to move to a gmail.com email address and not a custom domain, check out the CloudHQ portion at the bottom.
â
I did this migration for a client this afternoon because he couldn't find this info anywhere else. It doesn't include a contacts or calendar export or import. Those are pretty straightforward.
Our main business is helping organize digital workspaces, but we do migrations as well for individuals and small businesses. Give us a shout if you need anything.
â
â
1. đ Create a Fastmail AppâSpecific Password
- Log in to Fastmail â Settings â Privacy & Security â Integrations.
- Click New App Password (name it e.g. âWorkspace Migration\â).
- Copy the generated passwordâyouâll use it for IMAP access.
- This lets Googleâs IMAP tool log in securely. If you don't do this it won't work.
2. đď¸ Build Your Migration CSV
- Open this template.
- Make a copy of it (Use this Template button.)
- This makes a copy of the file in your Google account.
- Update it with your email address(es) and app-specific password(s).
- Download it as a CSV.
Make sure you include your appâspecific password. Your regular Fastmail password wonât work.

â
3. đ Run Migration in Google Workspace
- Sign in as SuperâAdmin â Admin Console â Data â Data migration (New).
- Choose Migration source: IMAP, enter: imap.fastmail.com, then select Test Connection.
- if you didn't do the second main step already... download the CSV template in this next section.
- Open the CSV and add the email address in the first column, the app-specific password you created in Step 1 in the next column, then the destination email for Google Workspace in the third.
- Save the CSV.
- If you don't have Excel, it's best to just upload the CSV into Google Sheets, edit it, then download the CSV and upload that doc.
- Upload your CSV and proceed.
- Set the Email start date to something like today's date in 2000. It just needs to be before your oldest email currently in Fastmail.
- Hit Save then Start Migration
- Track progress per userâreview status, errors, or cancel if needed.
