Highlights of the New Apple Announcements + Apple Music Web Beta

Apple Special Event

Today was Apple’s long-awaited announcements for this year.  From launch dates for their Arcade and TV+ services to new iPhones, iPads, and Watches.  They even have upcoming watch studios coming to retail stores where you will be able to try on any watch combination that you would like.  Keep reading for more details on these upcoming services and products!

Apple Arcade

Apple Arcade is launching September 19 at a monthly subscription rate of $4.99 per month for an entire family (6 users total). Apple is giving a free 1 month trial for anyone who signs up. The subscription gives you unlimited game play and access to over 100 new games coming out this fall. There will be no ads and no additional purchases within games. You can download your games for offline play for travel and can jump from iPhone to iPad, Mac, and Apple TV all in the same game. Check out more here if you are interested and you can click the ‘Notify me’ button in the top right if you would like to be the first to know when Apple Arcade is available. This could be a great opportunity to cut the kids off from in-app purchases in games!

AppleTV+ has a launch date of November 1 and Apple said they will be releasing new content each month going forward.  At a low $4.99 per month for a family subscription (6 users total) after a free 7-day trial, this is definitely going to rival other streaming services.  They even announced that when you purchase a new iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, or AppleTV2 you will get a 1-year subscription to AppleTV+ for free. That’s saving almost $60!

7th Generation iPad

The 7th Generation iPad has a 10.2” Retina Display, A10 Fusion Chip, pencil capability, as well as a Smart Connector so you will be able to attach a Smart Keyboard. Starting at $329 these are scheduled to launch September 30. You can pre-order here now and if you want to compare the different iPad models then check them out here.

Apple Watch Series 5

The ‘Always On, low temp Retina Display’, 18 hour battery life, built in compass, and international emergency calling (cellular models only) are the biggest new features of the Apple Watch Series 5. They also announced a new Apple Research App that will be available later this year if you are interested in helping with future medical research. On top of the standard aluminum and stainless steel models, the Apple Watch Series 5 will come in new Polished Titanium and Brushed Space Black Titanium finishes. There is also a new Space Black Hermes model. You can pre-order starting now and they will be available in store September 20. Starting at $399 and they dropped the Apple Watch Series 3 price starting at $199.

iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 comes in six new colors.  It has a 6.1” liquid retina display and dual cameras including a 12mp wide camera and 12mp ultra wide camera.  Adding features like night mode, quick take, and slow-mo now for the front facing camera, this phone is definitely tailored to the cameras.  Night mode is the thing that stood out most to me. The iPhone 11 has 1 more hour of battery life than the iPhone XR with the fastest CPU and GPU in a smartphone to date.  The iPhone 11 starts at $699. Pre-order this Friday starting at 5:00AM and available in stores September 20.

iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max

The iPhone 11 Pro 5.8”  and 11 Pro Max 6.5” come with everything the iPhone 11 comes with and more.  Adding a third camera, a 12mp Telephoto lens, four to five more hours of battery life than the iPhone XS, and a Super Retina XDR display.  These will come in Space Gray, Silver, New Gold, and a cool new Midnight Green. They gave a sneak peak of a new feature coming with a software update called Deep Fusion which takes 9 photos in one shutter click.  It will analyze the photo and pull out the best parts of all of them and turn it into the best photo. They also showed a demo of Filmic Pro, an app launching later this year that looks super cool for video. It will allow you to view and edit video as you go from all of your 4 camera angles right from your phone and much much more.  Video nerds, prepare yourselves. The iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999 and the iPhone 11 Pro Max starts at $1099. Pre-order this Friday starting at 5:00AM and available in stores September 20.

With these new phones they have lowered the price of the iPhone 8 and iPhone XR that will stay in their iPhone lineup.  The iPhone 8 will now start at $449 and the iPhone XR starts at $599.
